The term scleral cover shell is a type of ocular prosthesis that is fabricated to be worn over an existing eye. These patients whose existing eye is blind and shrunken due to disease, injury or evisceration. An evisceration is the surgical removal of the contents of the eyeball with the retention of the sclera with or without the cornea. The cover shell is generally thinner in size than an ocular prosthesis.
